Circuit Ricardo Tormo elaborates a protocol to admit public in the Valencia Grand Prix

Circuit Ricardo Tormo will hold two rounds of the Road Racing Motorcycling World Championship on November 8 and 15, which has seen its calendar modified on several occasions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The first will take place from 6 to 8 November, it will be called the European Grand Prix and it will be held behind closed doors like all the races held to date at the Cheste racetrack. Public will not have access to the practice sessions and the races, while the paddock and the rest of the facilities will be subject to the strict security regulations imposed by Dorna, the company that manages the MotoGP rights, to protect the more than a thousand people involved World Cup caravan.

A week later, Circuit Ricardo Tormo will celebrate, as it has been happening since 1999, the Motul Comunitat Valenciana Grand Prix from November 13 to 15. After conversations with Dorna, the Cheste Town Council, the Direcció General de l’Esport and the Spanish Motorcycle Federation, the Circuit Ricardo Tormo is finalizing a protocol that allows public access during the three days of the Grand Prix, subject to what the health authorities indicate at all times.

“The fans are the reason for being of the Circuit. Thanks to them, these facilities were built in 1999. From Circuit Ricardo Tormo we have to do our best, together with all the institutions involved at the event and always under the approval of the health authorities, to offer fans the possibility of attending the Grand Prix with all security measures” has indicated Gonzalo Gobert, Circuit General Manager.

Tickets refund

If the health authorities finally allow it, the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana will be the only one of the seven races to be held this year in Spain that welcomes fans to the grandstands. Jerez hosted the two inaugural MotoGP races of the with no public, as well as the only event at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at the end of the month and the two events that Motorland will hold in October.

In Italy this week, in Misano, and at Le Mans on the occasion of the next French Grand Prix, fans will have the opportunity to watch the races from the stands, with special security measures and reduced capacity.

ValenciaNASCAR, double event in December

NWES to crown 2020 Champion with an historic double event at Valencia

An unprecedented double event featuring four days of Pure Racing will close the 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo of Valencia. The world famous Spanish Circuit will host the NASCAR GP de la Comunitat Valenciana on December 3rd and 4th right before the EuroNASCAR Finals on December 5th and 6th.

For the first time in series history, the last eight races of the season will take place on four consecutive days. The 2020 EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 Champions will be crowned at the end of this Super Speed Week!

Specific restrictions to prevent the spreading of COVID-19 in the Baden-Württemberg region forced the postponement of the Hockenheimring American Fan Fest to 2021. The popular German event will be replaced by the NASCAR GP de la Comunitat Valenciana on December 3-4.

On December 5-6 the Spanish track will then host the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Finals, awarding double points to close out the season and decide titles and trophies.

“Everybody has to continuously adapt during these challenging times. The situation at the Hockenheimring is unfortunate and we can just work with everybody there on a bigger and better NASCAR GP Germany in 2021. But this can never stop creativity and we are really happy to organize this very unique Super Speed Week with our friends at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. These four days of Pure Racing will make history and we can’t wait to start the season in a few weeks at Vallelunga! Let’s go racing now!” said NWES President/CEO Jerome Galpin.

“Hosting two NASCAR Whelen Euro Series rounds at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo is great news and also a challenge for us. Our team is used to organizing the final race of many championships, both car racing and motorcycling, so we will be ready on December 3, 4, 5 and 6 for this historic Super Speed Week,” said Gonzalo Gobert, Circuit Ricardo Tormo General Manager.

Five events held across four European countries at four iconic venues will constitute the revised 2020 NWES calendar. The EuroNASCAR season will kick off on September 12-13 at the Autodromo di Vallelunga in Rome, Italy, followed by the October 3-4 NASCAR GP Belgium at Circuit Zolder. On November 14-15 the battle for the NWES title will resume in the Czech Republic at Autodrom Most. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will then head to Valencia on December 3-4-5-6 for the NASCAR GP de la Comunitat Valenciana and the EuroNASCAR Finals.

Ander Vilariño joins DF1 Racing for the 2020 Euro NASCAR season

After winning the EuroNASCAR 2 title and the Club Challenge in 2019, DF1 Racing is aiming straight at the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series crown in 2020 with the addition of Euro NASCAR’s only three-time champion Ander Vilarino.

The 40-year-old Spaniard will pilot the #22 Chevrolet Camaro and wear for the first time DF1 Racing’s iconic bright-colored tiger on his suit. Vilarino visited the team’s headquarters in Salzburg, Austria and signed a contract for the 2020 season with an option for 2021.

“I am really happy and thankful for the trust Norbert and Gudrun (DF1 Racing team owner) have in me. I’ll do everything I can to bring good results and contribute to put the best car on the grid. I also look forward to working together with the other DF1 Racing EuroNASCAR PRO drivers and support the EuroNASCAR 2 and Club drivers,” said the Hondarribia native, who boasts 22 wins in the top NWES championship, including two at his home track of Valencia in 2019. “Everybody at DF1 Racing is really motivated to win the title and this motivation is not only contagious, it also perfectly matches mine. They are professional but also a family-run team and that is something I love. I believe we can do really good things together.”

DF1 Racing’s motorsport boss Norbert Walchhofer made it clear that Vilarino’s arrival is the perfect move for the team to take the next step and have the chance to become only the fourth organization to win the European NASCAR championship.

“There is no team that wouldn’t be happy if the three-time NWES champion signs a contract with them. Ander visited our workshop for two days to take a look at the base and the work that has been done here. He signed the contract for the 2020 season right afterwards, with an option to keep working together in 2021,” said the Austrian. “Ander is a top driver and together we have the chance to win the EuroNASCAR title. With his NWES experience, he will bring the team forward and also help the young drivers. We will give our best to help Ander win his fourth NWES title.”

With a stronger-than-ever competition highlighting the EuroNASCAR PRO Championship in 2019 – seven different drivers visited Victory Lane in 13 races – Vilarino’s strategy for 2020 is pretty straightforward: go out to be the best in every lap of every session.

“We are all super motivated and this year we are going to give everything we have race by race, session by session and lap after lap. We want to be the fastest and finish every race in the best possible position,” concluded the Spaniard. “Every season is different and all the teams and drivers want to win and this is also a reason why reaching this agreement this soon in the winter is very important. It gives us the right time to prepare for the season and be at our best on the grid in Valencia.”

The Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain will host the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season opener for the seventh time on April 25-26. With 100 days to go, Ander Vilarino and the DF1 Racing team are already at work to be ready for the battle.

Valencia will close the new MotoE calendar

The revised schedule for the inaugural season of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup can now be confirmed, with all the partners involved in the Cup working hard to ensure this new parallel path of racing gets back on track.

The calendar will retain six races and MotoE™ will be back in business at a test in June at a circuit to be confirmed. The first race of the season will now take place at the HJC Helmets Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland in July, with the next two events set for the Red Bull Ring and Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli respectively, the latter of which will remain a double header. It won’t be the season finale, however, as the last round of the Cup will now take place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, where there will be another two races to end the season in spectacular style.

As previously stated, Jerez will not host MotoE™ as part of the Gran Premio Red Bull de España and the revised calendar confirms that MotoE™ will not race at Le Mans.

The exact causes of the fire that destroyed the majority of the equipment for the Cup remain under investigation. The results, as well as any further updates, will be announced in due course.

For now, save the date for the season opener at the German Grand Prix on the 7th of July.
