History

Since its was officially opened on 19th September 1999, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit has become a symbolic venue. Our commitment to sport has made the Region a true benchmark in the world of motorsport.Historia The Circuit has received many awards over the years, positioning it among the very best of today’s racing circuits. Recognition of this has come in the form of prizes hailing it as the best event organiser of major motorsport competitions withthree Motorcycling World Championship prizes (IRTA BEST GRAND PRIX in 2003, 2004 and 2006), two best World Superbikes Championship awards (2000 and 2006) and one award for the best Truck Grand Prix in 2001.. A circuit inside a stadium defines the idea behind the Circuit, which was designed so that spectators could follow races in full from the stands. The entire track can be seen from the 65,000 seats in the stands, meaning that fans do not miss out on any of the on-track action.

The demanding track layout and excellent facilities have made the Circuit one of the nerve centres of motorsports. With 95% track occupation throughout the year with events, training sessions and different activities. In addition to the MotoGP World Championship, we also host the two most important Touring Car races, the FIA WTCC World Championship and DTM German Touring Car Championship, Formula 3 and GT’s, races,CEV Spanish Motorcycling Championship and Formula 1 winter tests. Every year the Valencian circuit is the venue for the MotoGP finale hosting an event that has become a reference for the 120,000 fans who fill the stands and the riders who revel in the technical aspects of the track. It is, in short, a facility at the service of the huge number of Valencian motorcycling fans, which since its beginnings has seen over four and a half million visitors, with this figure endorsing the decision behind the project. But the objectives of the Valencia Regional Government cover a wider scope. The Ricardo Tormo circuit was intended to have a dynamising effect. It is not just a racing track. It is a place of gathering, a meeting point and above all, a place to have fun with family and friends. That is why the management at the Circuit organises complementary activities at each event so that our visitors enjoy themselves. EThat is how the Circuit goes beyond the mere scope of competition to become a true entertainment zone for fans. This initiative has taken the Circuit closer to Valencian society, which sees the facility as a leisure area for groups, with a wide choice of activities for watching and taking part in alike.

Sports promotion

The construction of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit was not only intended to meet the claims of Valencian motorcyclists. The Regional Government has created a sporting project with the objective of traihistoria-3ning young racers. Cuna de Campeones Bankiain motorcycling andEscuela de Karting Profiltekin karts are the first opportunity for young children to compete on motorbikes and in karts. Once young racers complete their initial learning process in different categories, with different vehicles and in different competitions, the pyramid is completed with the presence of Valencian racers in the World Motorcycling Completion such as the cases of Hector Faubel, Sergio Gadea, Hector Barbera, Nico Terol, Adrian Martin, etc., all of whom were forged through this project. Likewise, in car racing, now competing in single-seaters are other of our driving school’s protégés, namely Adrián Vallés, Félix Porteiro, Borja García, Sergio Hernández, Marco Barba, Roberto Merhi and Álvaro Barba All of them follow the wake of Fernando Alonso who was linked to our Circuit for a two-year period during his training. All of them are candidates to achieve one of the goals the Regional Government set itself with this school: to have a Valencian driver in Formula 1.
